RIYOM CLASH WITH STF LEAVES SCORES OF WOMEN INJURED

It was a case of show down when women of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State clashed with men of the Special Task Force (STF)  who are maintaining security in the state. Six people were reported injured in the process.

The women took to the streets protesting maltreatment by the members of the Special Joint Task Force.

The Media Officer STF, Captain Salisu Mustapha acknowledged the report but denied there was any maltreatment of  any sort.

STF accused people of Riyom of denying them access and resisting the house of house search for weapons and arms. Riyom women were accused of throwing objects at STF when search ongoing.

This hostility is believed to have re-enforced the no-love-lost relationship between STF and the people. A villager accused the soldiers of always coming to dispossess their local security groups of their weapons thereby leaving them vulnerable to attacks.

Plateau state is located in middle belt of Nigeria. The states which was once a very peaceful and loving environment has become a hot belt to constant community clash between the indigenes and the Fulanis - who are alleged to have been the culprits behind the constant raids. STF has been unable to track down gun men who attacks villages within this state.
