Three people were confirmed dead and dozens including children were trapped after a half-built Multi storey building collapsed in Tanzania’s main city of Dar es Salaam today.
The shell of the 16-storey building collapsed near a mosque in the Kisutu area of Tanzania’s economic capital, people including children were working or playing nearby, witnesses said.
Dar es Salaam regional police was quoted to have said Four children remain unaccounted for as they were playing near the building
No one could account for what was the cause of the accident but the police say the owner of the building would be held responsible and taken to task”.
Several people had been alleged to have been arrested as part of the investigation.
Many people were reportedly to have been working in and around the building at the time of the incident at around (0545 GMT).
Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete visited the scene of the disaster and posted messages of condolence on his Twitter account.
