ANOTHER MUSIC LEGEND GONE - Papa Wemba 1949 – 2013

To  Soukous and Macossa Lovers all around Africa.

The Music Icon Papa Wemba joined his ancestors on Sunday (1st June 2013) after succumbing to a battle of Diabetes at age 64 years old.

The news of his demises filtered round his home Country Democratic Republic Of Congo with sadness.

The musician whose real name is Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba has performed over the years and mentored Soukous singers like Koffi Olomide

Some of his works are : “Mere Superieure”, “Mabelle Mokozi”, and “Bukulak”. He also tried his hands in acting in films like 1987 film, “La Vie Est Belle, 1997, “Combat de Fauves” , 2004, “Les Habitat Neufs de Gouverneur” (The Governor’s New Clothes) and 2012 Belgian drama, “Kinshasa Kids”.

The legend until his return to DR Congo was jailed in 1976 for alleged falling in love with a General's daughter and in 2003 for smuggling hundred of Illegal Immigrants to Europe for a price.

His ban from Belgium and France changed him and changed his music towards the gospel side.

Condolense to his family, the people of DR congo and Africa as a whole.
